Real Food funds up for grabs

TORONTO, June 13, 2011 – Hellmann’s® is kicking off another year of its mission to get more real food on Canadian tables with $100,000 in Real Food grants.
Last year Hellmann’s® awarded $100,000 to 23 grassroots real food initiatives across Canada. The selected projects included a mobile greenhouse laboratory, an after-school junior chef program, and a real food sandwich competition. This year Hellmann’s®is continuing the Real Food Grant Program with a focus on initiatives that encourage families to learn about and experience real food.
“Last year we received more than 1,300 applications, clearly demonstrating that there is a real passion for food in Canada, “ said Stephanie Cox, Senior Brand Manager for Hellmann’s®in Canada. “We were blown away by the recipient projects in 2010 and we’re excited to harness that passion again this year to help even more Canadian families experience the pleasure that comes from eating real.”
Canadians can also support the movement by joining the real food conversation on Facebook. For every ‘Like’ Hellmann’s® Canada receives in 2011, Hellmann’s® will donate an additional $1 to real food initiatives to a maximum of $10,000.
“We’re very proud to be able to support so many great Canadian food projects, but there are lots of other ways for Canadians to get involved in the Real Food Movement,” said Cox. “If you visit our Facebook page you’ll learn about all the different things you can do to get your family excited about eating real food.”
Hellmann’s® is no stranger to helping Canadians get their hands on food. The brand has been championing the Real Food Movement in Canada since 2007 by converting city parking lots to urban gardens, informing Canadians about the importance of eating local and simplifying the ingredients in Hellmann’s® products.
Chuck Hughes, celebrity chef and co-owner of Montreal’s Garde Manger restaurant, has been working with Hellmann’s® since 2007 to help Canadians connect with real food. Along with providing real food tips and recipes, Hughes is also engaging with Canadians on the Hellmann’s® Canada Facebook page to spread the word about the Real Food Movement.
“I get excited about real ingredients and the creative things people can do with them,” said Hughes. “I’m really inspired how other people approach food and Facebook is a great place to connect with me.”
